Hindu Goddess Statues

New Page 4

Indian Goddesses worshiped in Hinduism are Lakshmi, Saraswati, Parvati, Durga, and Kali. Shaktism recognizes Shakti as the supreme goddess. The concept of Mahadevi as the supreme goddess emerged in historical religious literature as a term to define the powerful and influential nature of female deities in India. Throughout history, goddesses have been portrayed as the mother of the universe, through whose powers the universe is created and destroyed. The gradual changes in belief through time shape the concept of Mahadevi and express how the different Goddesses, though very different in personality, all carry the power of the universe on their shoulders.

Handmade Lord Hanuman Statues

New Page 2

Lord Hanuman was born to the humanoid creatures called the vanaras. His mother Anjana was an apsara who was born on earth as a female vanara due to a curse. She would be redeemed from this curse on her giving birth to a son. The Valmiki Ramayana states that his father Kesari was the son of Brihaspati and that Kesari also fought on Rama's side in the war against Ravana. Anjana and Kesari performed intense prayers to Shiva to get a child. Pleased with their devotion, Shiva granted them the boon they sought. Hanuman, in another interpretation, is the incarnation or reflection of Shiva himself. Lord Hanuman is a Hindu deity, who was an ardent devotee of Rama according to the Hindu legends. He is a central character in the Indian epic Ramayana and its various versions. A vanara (ape-like humanoid), Hanuman participated in Rama's war against the demon king Ravana. He is also considered the son of Vayu, who according to several mythological stories, played a role in his birth.

Lord Ganesha Statue

New Page 2

The flabby, placid, sensible, elephant-headed Ganesh, or Ganesha, is one of Hinduisms most popular deities. Ganesh is the remover of obstacles, the deity whom worshippers first acknowledge when they visit a temple. Ganesh is also benefactor of letters and of learning; Ganesh is the legendary scribe who, using his broken tusk, which he often holds, wrote down parts of the Mahabharata epic. Ganesha is remembered in marriages, worships, and auspicious functions so that unforeseen happenings can be prevented. As the bestower of buddhi (intellect), Ganesha can protect us from these limitations as well. While Ganesha remembrance can grant us learning in the areas of our choice, induce spirituality in our hearts, and rid our lives from hypocrisy and dishonesty, he can also purge our material suffering and give us comforts and luxuries.
